Basketball Court Construction in the UAE
Basketball court construction covers two very different jobs — an indoor sprung wooden floor in a school sports hall, and an outdoor acrylic court that has to survive a Dubai August. Turnkey Basketball Court Construction, Start to Finish
Most suppliers do the floor or the hoops. We do the court. Nine stages, one contract, and a specification that accounts for the ring system before the floor build-up is fixed — not after.

A full-size FIBA basketball court measures 28m long by 15m wide. Ring height is 3.05m — the one dimension that is identical at every level of the game, everywhere in the world.

Indoor or Outdoor? The Specification Changes Completely
This is the first decision, and it determines everything downstream — surface, standard, climate strategy, maintenance cycle and cost profile.

The court will host competitive or school league basketball, needs to meet EN 14904 performance criteria, or sits inside an existing hall with the clear height to take it.
The court is for community and recreational play, budget is the governing constraint, or you need multiple courts across a development rather than one flagship facility.
If the court will host competitive or school league basketball, build indoor sprung wood. If it is for community and recreational play, an outdoor acrylic court delivers far more usable hours per dirham — provided it is shaded or lit for evening play. In this climate, an unshaded, unlit outdoor court is unusable for much of the day for much of the year, and that is a specification problem, not a budget one.

Interlocking tiles laid over a prepared base. Fast to install, forgiving of minor base movement, with excellent drainage and panels that can be replaced individually rather than resurfacing the whole court. Popular for community courts and multi-sport areas.

Existing outdoor courts get crack repair, falls correction and a full recoat. Existing indoor timber floors get sanding, re-marking and re-lacquering. Both cost a fraction of replacement — and in UAE conditions most courts need attention long before the base or sub-floor fails.

The floor is only half a basketball court. We specify and install the ring system alongside the surface, so the fixings, overhang and finished ring height are coordinated from design stage.

Fixed or folding, for halls with suitable structure and limited ceiling access.

Tempered glass, acrylic or steel
Sized to specification — 1.80m × 1.05m for full-size play. Glass for competition and premium venues, steel for high-abuse outdoor sites.
Rings & Nets
Breakaway rims
Breakaway rims for competition and school use, supplied with net systems. They protect both the player and the backboard.
Ring height of 3.05m is non-negotiable. Overhang, foundation depth and structural fixings are where most installations fail — almost always because the hoop system was bought separately from the floor and nobody checked how the two would meet. We coordinate both from design stage.
Basketball Court Lighting
Basketball is played looking upward. Glare control matters more here than on any other court we build — a shooter aiming at the ring should never have a luminaire in the same field of view.

Luminaires positioned to avoid glare in the shooter's sightline and protected against ball strike. In shared sports halls the layout has to work for every sport marked on the floor, not just basketball.
Pole positions coordinated with the fence line, and spill light controlled where courts sit close to residential buildings — a common constraint on community and rooftop courts in Dubai.
How we design it. Lighting is designed to EN 12193 classes, modelled before installation, and measured at commissioning — lux and uniformity reported, not assumed from the datasheet. Confirm the exact requirement with the relevant federation for any court intended to host sanctioned competition.
Basketball Court Maintenance
Two surfaces, two entirely different care regimes. This is the schedule we issue at handover — follow it and the floor reaches the top of its service life.

Humidity is the enemy
Humidity control is the single biggest factor in indoor timber floor life in this region. A hall with unreliable HVAC will cup, gap or crown a maple floor long before playing hours wear it out.
UV is the enemy
UV exposure is the equivalent factor outdoors. Colour fades, the coating chalks and the surface loses grip — usually well before the base beneath it shows any sign of failure.

What are the dimensions of a basketball court?
A full-size FIBA court is 28m long by 15m wide. NBA courts are slightly larger at 28.65m × 15.24m. Allow around 2m of clear run-off around the playing area, so a full court needs approximately 32m × 19m of usable space.
How high is a basketball hoop?
3.05 metres from the finished floor to the top of the ring. This is the same at every level of the game worldwide, from school courts to professional competition.
How much space do I need for a half court?
Approximately half the length of a full court plus run-off — around 15m × 15m of usable space for a comfortable half court. Villa and rooftop courts are often built smaller than regulation; Raymond Sport sets out the largest court the site will properly take.
What is the best surface for an outdoor basketball court in the UAE?
Acrylic over a reinforced concrete base, in most cases. It is UV-stable, low maintenance and can be laid in full colour schemes. Modular polypropylene tile is a good alternative where drainage or base movement is a concern.
What is EN 14904?
The European standard for indoor sports floor surfaces. It sets performance criteria for shock absorption, ball rebound, vertical deformation and slip resistance — the measurements that determine whether a floor actually plays like a basketball court rather than just looking like one.
Can you resurface an existing basketball court?
Yes. Outdoor courts get crack repair, falls correction and a full recoat. Indoor timber floors get sanded, re-marked and re-lacquered. Both cost far less than replacement and are usually the right answer if the base or sub-floor is sound.
Do you supply the hoops as well as the court?
Yes — ceiling-mounted, wall-mounted, in-ground and portable systems, with backboards and breakaway rims. Coordinating the hoop system with the floor build-up at design stage avoids the fixing and overhang problems that appear when they are bought separately.
Do you build basketball courts outside the UAE?
