Artificial Turf Supply & Installation in the UAE

One turf does not fit a football pitch, a putting green and a villa lawn — different yarn, pile height, infill and base. A FIFA-quality 3G pitch and a landscaping lawn are not the same product, and buying them as if they were is how projects fail. Raymond Sport supplies and installs the right artificial turf system for each use across the UAE — sports and landscape, engineered for the sun and drainage of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the wider Emirates. Building and surfacing here since 1987.

Turnkey Turf, Base to Blade

The blades are the part you see. What decides whether a pitch passes a FIFA test or a lawn survives five UAE summers is everything underneath and around it — the sub-base, the shock pad, the drainage and the seaming. Raymond Sport builds the whole system, not just the surface.

Turnkey scope of works for artificial turf supply and installation
# Scope item Detail
01 Survey & Levels Site survey, levels, gradients and drainage falls — and how the turf area ties into existing paths, kerbs and fencing.
02 Design & Certification Spec Yarn type, pile height, dtex, stitch rate, infill and shock pad chosen for the sport or landscape use — issued as a drawn specification, with the target certification standard where one applies.
03 Approvals Support Material submittals, product data sheets and method statements for consultant and authority review.
04 Earthworks & Sub-base Compacted, engineered aggregate base laid to falls. The layer that decides how the turf drains and performs for its whole life.
05 Drainage Permeable build-up and falls, sized for UAE cloudburst rainfall — because a pitch that ponds is a pitch out of use.
06 Shock Pad / E-layer Where the specification requires it, a shock pad or e-layer for force reduction and player safety — essential on certified sports pitches.
07 Turf Lay & Seaming Turf rolled, set out to the correct direction, and seamed so joins are invisible and durable under play.
08 Infill Sand and performance infill (SBR, TPE or cork) brushed in to the specified rate for ball behaviour, stability and player comfort.
09 Line Inlay & Marking Game lines inlaid into the turf rather than painted, for sharp, permanent markings that do not wear off.
10 Handover & Warranty Snag list closed, as-built and product documentation, maintenance schedule and warranty pack issued.
Single Point of Responsibility

One contract, one team accountable from sub-base to the last blade — so there is no gap between who prepared the ground and who laid the turf on it.

Sports Turf or Landscape Grass — Two Different Products

"Artificial grass" covers two products that share a name and almost nothing else. A FIFA-quality football turf and a villa lawn are engineered for opposite jobs — buying one when you needed the other is the most common and most expensive turf mistake in the UAE.

Comparison of sports artificial turf and landscape artificial grass
Consideration Sports TurfPerformance-graded Landscape GrassAppearance-led
Purpose Play performance and player safety — ball roll, grip, force reduction A natural, low-maintenance green appearance for gardens and public realm
Yarn & Pile Durable monofilament, taller pile tuned to the sport Softer, multi-tone blends with a lower, denser pile for a realistic look
Infill Sand + performance infill (SBR, TPE or cork) for ball behaviour and stability Sand-dressed or non-infill, for firmness and drainage
Base Engineered sub-base, drainage and often a shock pad Compacted permeable base — simpler, but still drainage-critical in the UAE
Certification FIFA Quality, World Rugby Reg 22, FIH where required No sport certification — judged on UV stability, look and lifespan
What Matters Meeting the standard and holding it under heavy play Staying green and cool without fading in the UAE sun
The Design Decision

The first question Raymond Sport asks is not "how many square metres" but "what is it for" — because the honest answer changes the yarn, the infill, the base and the price. Specifying a landscape grass for a pitch, or an over-built sports turf for a garden, wastes money either way.

How to Read a Turf Spec: Yarn, Pile and Infill

Two turf quotes at the same price per square metre can be very different products. These are the terms on a specification that actually decide quality — know them and you can compare like for like instead of on price alone.

Artificial turf specification terms explained
Spec term What it means & why it matters
Yarn TypeMonofilament vs fibrillated Monofilament yarns are separate blades — softer, more natural, better for most sports. Fibrillated yarn is a netted sheet that splits into fibres — tougher and holds infill well. The right choice depends on the sport and budget.
Pile HeightMeasured in mm The length of the blade. Football and rugby run taller piles (around 40–60 mm) for cushioning and infill depth; putting greens and some hockey turf run much shorter for true ball roll.
DtexYarn thickness The weight and thickness of the fibre. A higher dtex means a more robust blade that resists flattening — a key durability number that a cheap turf quietly cuts.
Stitch Rate & DensityTufts per area How tightly the turf is tufted. More stitches means a denser, longer-lasting surface — and more yarn, which is why density separates a premium turf from a thin one.
InfillSBR, TPE or cork Sand plus a performance granule brushed between the blades. SBR (recycled rubber) is economical; TPE is cleaner and cooler; cork is a natural, cooler option growing in the UAE. Infill sets ball behaviour, stability and how hot the surface runs.
Shock Pad / E-layerUnder the turf A cushioning layer beneath the turf that provides force reduction — the safety number certified pitches are tested on. Skipping it saves money and fails the standard.
UV StabilisationSun resistance Additives that stop the fibre fading and going brittle. Non-negotiable in the UAE — a turf without proper UV stabilisation is on a short clock under this sun.
PermeabilityDrainage rate How fast water passes through the turf and base. Sized for UAE cloudburst rainfall so the surface clears quickly and stays playable.
How to Compare Quotes

If a quote does not state the yarn type, pile height, dtex, stitch rate, infill and shock pad, it is not a specification — it is a price. Raymond Sport quotes against a drawn spec so you can compare like for like, not guess what is under the blades.

Built for UAE Heat and Rain

Most artificial turf is engineered for European weather and then shipped here unchanged. In the UAE, two things break turf that a cooler market never has to worry about — relentless UV, and the rare but violent cloudburst. Both are designed for from the start.

UV Stability

The Gulf sun fades and embrittles unprotected fibre fast. Raymond Sport specifies UV-stabilised yarn so the turf holds its colour and strength through summer after summer — not just the first one.

Surface Temperature

Turf can run hot in direct sun. Cooler infills like TPE and cork, and cool-yarn technologies, bring the surface temperature down for comfortable barefoot and daytime play in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Drainage & Permeability

When rain does come, it comes hard. Permeable turf backing, an engineered base and designed falls clear a cloudburst quickly — so the surface does not pond and is playable again within hours.

Why It Matters

A turf that fades, hardens or ponds in its first two summers was specified for the wrong climate. Building for UAE heat and rain from the survey stage is the difference between a surface that lasts its full life and one that needs replacing early.

What Artificial Turf Costs in the UAE

There is no single price per square metre for artificial turf, and any quote that gives you one without asking what it is for is guessing. These are the factors that actually move the cost — which is why Raymond Sport prices against a drawn specification, not a blanket rate.

Factors that determine artificial turf cost per square metre in the UAE
Cost driver How it changes the price
Turf Grade & Certification A landscape grass, a community 3G and a FIFA Quality Pro pitch turf are different products at different prices — certification and yarn quality are the biggest single driver.
Area & Access Larger areas improve the rate per m²; tight access, rooftops or awkward sites add to it.
Shock Pad / E-layer A certified sports pitch usually needs a shock pad for force reduction — a real cost a cheap quote leaves out.
Sub-base Condition Turf on an existing sound base costs less than a project needing full earthworks and a new engineered base.
Drainage Where the site needs a permeable build-up and laterals for UAE rainfall, that groundwork is priced in.
Infill Type Standard sand and SBR is economical; cooler TPE or cork infill for heat comfort adds to the rate.
Line Inlay & Extras Inlaid game lines, fencing, rebound boards and lighting are scoped and priced to the facility, not assumed.
How Raymond Sport Prices

We quote against a drawn specification so the number reflects the turf, the base and the site you actually have — not a headline rate that quietly drops the shock pad, the drainage or the certification. That is how two turf quotes end up so far apart.

Artificial Turf: Frequently Asked Questions

The questions developers, clubs, schools and homeowners ask before choosing artificial turf in the UAE.

What is artificial turf made of?

Artificial turf is built from synthetic yarn (usually monofilament or fibrillated polyethylene) tufted into a backing, laid over an engineered base and, on sports pitches, a shock pad. Sand and a performance infill — SBR, TPE or cork — are brushed between the blades to set stability, ball behaviour and surface temperature.

Artificial turf vs natural grass in the UAE — which is better?

In the UAE, artificial turf usually wins on water, maintenance and year-round usability — it stays green through summer with no irrigation and handles far more play than natural grass can in this climate. Natural grass can still be preferred for the very highest levels of some sports. For most community, school and landscape uses in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, quality artificial turf is the practical choice.

What is the difference between FIFA Quality and FIFA Quality Pro?

FIFA Quality is the standard for community and high-usage football pitches; FIFA Quality Pro is the higher tier for professional and elite competition, tested to stricter performance criteria. Raymond Sport specifies the tier that matches how the pitch will actually be used and certified.

How long does artificial turf last in the UAE sun?

A quality, UV-stabilised turf typically lasts around 8–12 years for landscape use and, for sports turf, a service life driven by play hours before the pile wears. The single biggest factor in the UAE is UV stabilisation — a turf without it fades and hardens far sooner, which is why it is specified carefully at the start.

Does artificial turf get too hot in Dubai, and can it be cooled?

Turf can run hot in direct sun, but it can be managed. Cooler infills such as TPE and cork, cool-yarn technologies and shade or misting bring the surface temperature down for comfortable daytime and barefoot use. Raymond Sport specifies cooler systems where heat comfort matters, such as landscape lawns and play areas.

What is the difference between monofilament and fibrillated turf?

Monofilament turf has individual blades — softer and more natural, preferred for most sports. Fibrillated turf uses a netted yarn that splits into fibres — tougher and good at holding infill. The right choice depends on the sport, the wear expected and the budget.

Do you install both sports turf and landscape grass?

Yes. Raymond Sport supplies and installs sports turf (football, rugby, cricket, hockey, golf) and landscape artificial grass for villas, communities and public spaces — each specified with the correct yarn, infill and base for its use.

Do you supply and install artificial turf outside the UAE?

Yes. Raymond Sport delivers across the GCC, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait, in addition to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the wider Emirates.
